MASALA FISH CURRY/ SIMPLE FISH CURRY
FISH
MASALA CURRY OR MASALA FISH CURRY is a simple, delicious and flavorful
non-vegetarian recipe made with fish in tomato and onion gravy.
Fish
masala curry is considered a healthy recipe because fish is a low calorie food
and it contains protein, minerals and vitamins like A and D. fish are also
valuable source of omega-3 fatty acids which reduce blood pressure and promote
mental health. Consumption of fish can help in relieving depression.
As
we can get varieties fish in India, Indian cuisine is known for its large
assotment of fish curries with diversity of cooking style. I have shared a
recipe of my style. It is a gravy dish in which fish are marinated and fried
and served in onion-tomato gravy. It is called “machha jhola” in odia.
This
recipe is a very simple and a nice recipe for beginners. Its taste delicious with
steamed rice.
INGREDIENTS:
FOR MARINATION OF FISH:
1. Fish-1 kg
2. Salt
3. Turmeric powder-1 tsp
4. Red chili powder-1 tsp
5. Pepper powder-1/2 tsp
6. Lemon juice-1 tbsp
FOR GRAVY OF FISH CURRY:
1. Onions-2(medium)
2. Tomatoes-2( medium)
3. Ginger-1 inch
4. Garlic- 6 to 7 cloves
5. Salt
6. Oil
7. Coriander powder-1 tsp
8. Kashmiri red chili powder-1 tsp
9. Red chili powder-1 tsp
10. Cumin powder-1/2 tsp
11. Garam masala-1/2 tsP
12. Kasoori methi-1 tsp
13. Green chili-3 to 4

1. Oil for frying fish
2. Chopped coriander leaves for
garnishing
METHODS FOR PREPARING MASALA FISH CURRY:
FOR MARINATION OF FISH:
1. Clean the fish and wash properly.
2. Add salt, turmeric powder, red
chili powder, pepper powder and lemon juice.
3. Rub the fish very well with masala
on by using hand.
4. Cover the fish and keep aside for
30 minutes.
FOR FRYING FISH:
1. For frying the fish heat a tawa or
pan. Heat 3 to 4 tbsp mustard oil .when the oil became hot reduce the flame and
add marinated fish in the oil.
2. Let the fish be cooked for 2 to 3
minutes on low flame.
3. After 3 minutes flip the fish
carefully and let the other side be cooked. Fish should be fried slightly from
both the side; otherwise it will become hard and will not soak the gravy.
4. Fry the fish both the sides till
the raw smell of the fish gone. Then transfer the fried fish to a plate and
keep aside.
FOR MAKING
GRAVY:
1. Chop onion, ginger and garlic and make a paste
of it. Chop tomatoes and make puree.
2. Heat oil in a kadhai or karai and
add ½ tsp sugar. When the sugar became red add cumin seeds, cloves, green
cardamom and cinnamon and let it cook for a while.
3. Add onion-ginger-garlic paste and
saute for 2 minutes. Now add tomato puree and cook till it becomes dry and
cooked properly.
4. Add all dry masala; coriander
powder, cumin powder, red chili powder, kashmiri red chili powder, turmeric
powder and salt. Mix well and fry it for 5 to 8 minutes.
5. When masala cooked nicely add 2
cups water and let it boil.when the curry start boiling add fried fish and let
it simmer for 10 to 15 minutes.
6. Check the consistency of gravy.
Now add kasoori methi, garam masala and gree chilies and let it cook for one
minute.
7. Now masala fish curry is ready to
serve. Add chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with steamed rice or boiled
rice.
