DAL PALAK RECIPE/ PALAK DAL RECIPE/ SPINACH DAL RECIPE
Lentils
or dals are considered to be one of staple food of Indian cuisine. It is or
considered to be a great source of protein and fiber. For many vegetarians, dals
are a great source protein. In the other hand, palak is the most healthy
vegetable which contains lots of vitamin C, folic acid, calcium, iron and lots
of other minerals.So dal palak or palak dal is a simple and probably the most
healthy dal recipe which can be made in a short amount of time.
For this recipe we use toor dal
or arhar dal with the tadka of palak, onion, ginger, garlic and tomato. First,
boil the dal then prepare a tadka of onion, tomato, ginger, garlic and spinach
or palak. Add the boil dal into the tadka to prepare the recipe.
It is a quick and delicious
recipe goes well with rice, roti and paratha.
INGREDIENTS:
· Arhar
dal-1 cup

Palak-250 grams
·
Onion-1(medium)
·
Tomatoes-2(medium)
·
Green
chilli-3
·
Ginger-garlic
paste-1 tbsp
·
Coriander
powder-2 tsp
·
Cumin
powder-1 tsp
·
Red
chilli powder-2 tsp
·
Turmeric
powder-1/2 tsp

Garam
masala-1 tsp
·
Ghee-1 tsp
·
Red
chilli -2
·
Chopped
coriander leaves-2 tbsp
·
Cumin
seeds-1 tsp
·
Mustard
seeds-1 tsp
·
Asafoetida(Heeng)-
1/4 tsp
HOW TO MAKE DAL PALAK (INSTRUCTIONS)
STEP-1: Wash dal properly and soak
for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, take a pressure cooker and add 2 cups of
water, soaked dal, salt and turmeric powder in it. Then cover the lid and cook
on high flame until first whistle and then reduce the flame to medium and cook
till 3 more whistle and turn off the flame. Let it cool.
STEP-2: Wash the palak and chop.
STEP-3: Chop onion, green chillies
and tomatoes.
STEP-4: Heat oil in a pan or kadai
and add cumin seeds, mustard seeds and asafoetida.
STEP-5: Then add chopped onion and
chopped green chillies and saute for a while.
STEP-6: Then add chopped tomatoes
and cook by covering the lid on it till it soften and mushy. Stir at interval
while sauteing.
STEP-7: Add all dry masalas and
fry for 1 to 2 minutes.Let the masala cooked properly.
STEP-8: Add chopped palak and mix
well. Cover the lid and cook for 1 minute.Let the spices and spinach cook and
infuse the flavours.
STEP-9: Pour boiled dal and mix
well.Let it be cook for a while.
STEP-10: Add water if require to
maintain a medium thickness of consistency.
STEP-11: Remove the dal from flame
and pour in a serving bowl.
STEP-12: Take a tadka pan and heat
1 tsp ghee. Add 1/2 tsp cumin seeds and red chillies.
STEP-13: Now add red chilli powder
and immediately pour on the dal. Mix well and serve hot.
METHODS
FOR PREPARING DAL PALAK STEP BY STEP PHOTO
STEP-1:
Chop palak, onion, green chillies and tomatoes.
STEP-2:
Wash dal and soak for 30 minutes.
STEP-3:
Take a pressure cooker and place water, soaked dal, salt and turmeric powder.
STEP-4:
Cover the lid and cook till 3 whistles and keep aside.
STEP-5:
Heat oil in a kadhai.
STEP-6:
Add cumin seeds, mustard seeds and asafoetida.
STEP-7:
Add chopped onions and chillies and saute.
STEP-8:
Add ginger garlic paste and saute till the raw smell of ginger garlic is gone.
STEP-9:
Add chopped tomatoes and fry till the tomatoes soften.
STEP-10:
Add dry masalas and fry the masala till it cooked properly.
STEP-11:
Add chopped palak and mix well.
STEP-12:
Cover the lid and cook for 1 minute.
STEP-13:
Remove the lid and fry for 2 minutes.
STEP-14:
Add boiled dal and mix well.
STEP-15:
Adjust the consistency of dal.

Take a tadka pan and heat 1 tsp ghee.
STEP-17:
Add cumin seeds and green chilli in it. (You can add red chillies also)
STEP-18:
Add red chilli powder.
STEP-19:
Pour the tadka on the cooked dal and mix.
STEP-20:
Now dal palak is ready to serve.
