Vegetable Oats Upma

 OATS UPMA RECIPE / VEGETABLE OATS UPMA RECIPE

             Oats are known for their health benefits. It contains dietary fibers, iron and cholesterol reducing agents, which makes the oats a healthy option for all ages. Oats recipes are very common in many Indian houses and it is mainly eaten for morning breakfast.

            Oats upma is a healthy upma variety made with quick cooking oats and mixed vegetables. It is a fusion of ingredients, which combines all health benefits of oats, fresh vegetables and Indian spices. It is for those who prefer to have benefits of oats, yet do not want to compromise on taste.

           Oats upma is a delicious and easy to prepare recipe which takes very less amount of time. I prepare it the way I make Rava Upma.


INGREDIENTS:

1. Oats-2 cups
2. Onion-1(medium)
3. Chopped vegetables-1 cup (cauliflower,carrot,beans,peas and any other vegetables of your choice)
4. Curry leaves
5. Oil
6. Salt
7. Tomato(optional)
8. Green chillies-3 to 4(slit)
9. Lemon juice-1 tbsp(optional)
10. Channa dal-1 tbsp
11. Urad dal-1 tbsp
12. Mustard seeds- 1 tsp


METHODS FOR PREPARING OATS UPMA


STEP-1: Dry roast the oats for 5 minutes or till it become light brown.

STEP-2: Chop all vegetables and onion. Slit green chillies.

STEP-3: Heat oil in a pan and add channa dal, urad dal and mustard seeds.

STEP-4: Now add chopped onions and saute.

STEP-5: Add curry leaves and green chillies and fry till the onions become transparent.

STEP-6: Add all chopped vegetables and little salt. Cook the vegetables till it cooked properly( do not over cook the vegetables). Keep the vegetables crunchy.

STEP-7: Now add 3 cups water and let it boil. Then add roasted oats init and mix well.

STEP-8: Stir continuously till oats absorb all water and cooked.

STEP-9: Add lemon juice and serve hot.

HOW TO MAKE OATS UPMA WITH STEP BY STEP PHOTO


STEP-1: Roast oats in a pan till it becomes light brown.

STEP-2: Transfer it to a plate.

STEP-3: Chop all vegetables, onion and green chillies.

STEP-4: Heat 4 tbsp oil in a pan and add chana dal, urad dal and mustard seeds. Fry till the dals become brown and mustard seeds crackle.

STEP-5: Add chopped onions and saute.

STEP-6: Then add green chillies and curry leaves.

STEP-7: Now add all chopped vegetables and little salt.

STEP-8: Cook the vegetable till it becomes tender and cooked.

STEP-9: Add 3 cups water and let it comes to a boil.

STEP-10:  Then add roasted oats and mix well.

STEP-11: Cook it until the oats absorb all the water and oats gets cooked well.

STEP-12: Add 1 tbsp lemon juice and mix well. A healthy breakfast is ready to serve.

VEGETABLE RAVA UPMA/ RAVA UPMA/SUJI UPMA/SEMOLINA UPMA

                                      
             Upma is the most popular south Indian breakfast recipe which is made from semolina(rava or suji) and cooked along with vegetables and seasonings.Vegetable rava upma is a traditonal south Indian recipe which is loaded with vegetables. Vegetable rava upma as breakfast is a great way to start your mornings. Serve it along with sambhar and your favorite chutney.
                  Vegetable rava upma is a healthy option for breakfast. It can be made very quickly and easily. Here I am sharing my super simple and quick rava upma recipe step by step.

INGREDIENTS:


·         Rava-1 and half cups
·         Onion-1(chopped)
·         Green chili-3 or  4(cut in a slit)
·         Beans-8 (chopped)
·         Cauliflower-1/2 cup(with small pieces)
·         Peas -1/4th cup
·         A few curry leaves
·         Urad dal -1/2 tsp
·         Chana dal-1 tsp
·         Mustard seeds-1 tsp
·         Salt
·         Oil
·         Lemon juice(optional)

HOW TO MAKE RAVA UPMA:



STEP-1:
Dry roast the rava in a pan or kadhai till it
becomes light brown.


STEP-2:
Transfer it to a plate and keep it aside to cool.
















STEP-3
Heat oil in the same pan or kadhai and add mustard seeds in the oil. When it starts spluttering add urad dal, chana dal and curry leaves.




















 STEP 4:
When the dals turn golden brown add chopped onions and green chillies and Saute it till the onion become transparent.




















STEP-5:


 Then add chopped vegetables (carrots, beans, cauliflower) and peas. Fry the vegetables for a while, then add chopped tomatoes.Add little salt and saute for a min.


















STEP-6:
 Now pour 3 cups of water in it and allow it to boil. Add roasted rava and salt in it.




















STEP-7:
Let it cook till the water evaporates and the rava cooked properly. Stir constantly to avoid lumps.





STEP-8:
Finally, add lemon juice in it (optional). Now rava upma is ready for your breakfast.


















STEP-9:



 Serve hot with sambhar and chutney.
